Special Fields
DescriptionSecond hand. Since the European settlement of New Zealand, drovers have moved stock 'on the hoof' from ships and stations to new homes scattered throughout the country. In this book - the first of its kind - Ruth Entwistle Low interviews almost 60 old-time drovers, revealing and reliving the practice of droving and the people who have underpinned it. Author descriptionRuth Entwistle Low has always been curious about other people's stories. Following the completion of her Master's in History from Massey University, Ruth channelled this curiosity into recording life histories; researching and conducting oral history projects funded by the Ministry for Culture and Heritage and South Canterbury Museum. She now operates an oral history business, Your History, in partnership with fellow Timaruvian Linda Hepburn. On the Hoof is the result of both primary research and a substantial body of oral history interviews conducted right throughout the country. Ruth lives in Timaru with her husband, Mark, two teenage daughters, Charlotte and Kate, and their golden retriever, Nelson. |
